Software Engineer, SaaS (Email Service)

Webroot is currently seeking a Software Engineer to join its growing SaaS (Software as a Service) Development team.  The Software Engineer will have the unique opportunity to help design and develop Webroot’s critical Security SaaS product, as follows:

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the creation of product design specifications for the Email Security SaaS architecture
  • Write quality source code which meets defined project standards and deadlines.
  • Perform unit testing on source code where required, prior to handover to test/ quality assurance teams
  • Perform maintenance on source code, analyzing and fixing bugs where necessary, whether they be raised internally or in the field
  • Occasional provide 3rd line support to 2nd line support team or in some cases 3rd line support to the customer
  • Provide estimates on future development programs, and good and accurate progress reports to support planning activities
  • Periodically design and implement custom enhancements for specific customer requirements
  • Active participation in, and contribution towards:
    • technical documentation
    • code reviews
    • design reviews
    • team review meetings
    • project planning input
    • management information
  • Perform occasional evaluation of new technologies and methodologies for use within the product set

Required Skills and Experience

  • At least 5 years working as a software engineer within a C/C++ Linux development environment
  • Demonstrable experience of designing and implementing system’s software in a similar environment, i.e. SaaS, ISP or Telco environment.
  • Full project Life Cycle development experience
  • Working knowledge of technologies including Socket & Thread based programming, OpenSSL and LDAP
  • Knowledge of Software Development Lifecycle Tools – source control (Perforce), issue tracking, bug tracking (Test Track Pro), etc.
  • Must be able to quickly and adeptly manipulate existing engineering code, as opposed to re-writing
  • Able to prioritise and work within tight time scales in order to meet deadlines
  • Self starter able to make progress with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work within a team environment with good communication skills
  • Able to work in an environment where change is a regular occurrence. Must not get frustrated by this, but see as a challenge!

Desired Skills

  • Demonstrable experience specifically of working within a LAMP environment
  • Development of products within messaging (SMTP) and security environments
  • Development and design of products for high performance ISP/ SaaS based environments.
  • JAVA development expertise
  • Web UI development skills
  • Experience with PHP 5.x for web site and back-end script development
  • Detailed knowledge of mySQL; particularly driving sql in an optimized fashion
  • Detailed knowledge of mySQL and approaches to build efficient/ scalable applications on this technology
  • Good technical writing skills
